|  Some ways and ideas I collected:   –  Don’t take a plastic bag when you only buy one or two items –  Reuse plastic bags –  Put An environmental tax on plastic bags (Ireland reduced the amount of plastic bags by 90 % through taxation) –  Ask shops to give a plastic bag only when requested –  Ask shops to ‘sell’ plastic bags instead of giving them away for free; campaign to make it a law (unknown if it helps or just finances the plastic bag business; probably more useful if the money earned through selling of bags, is used for environmental projects) –  Be an example to others –  Say no to plastic bags when you are going to put the item you just bought in your shoulder bag or backpack anyway –  Use biodegradable bags (unknown if it’s really helpful) –  Use them as garbage bags –  Count how many plastic bags you actually use, you’ll be surprised –  Use paper bags to collect dog dirt –  Inform about the problem that plastic bags cause (e.g. information boards in shops) –  Ban plastic bags –  Use bags made of fabric to shop (always bring one wherever you go, there are super small versions!) –  Use biodegradable plastic bags to carry raw meat and other products to prevent contamination –  Ask famous designers to design reusable bags –  Let people design their own bags –  Ask conference organizers to give away bread and cake in reusable bags instead of paper cases –  Give away reusable bags as a gift instead of other things –  Eat in the restaurant instead of buying take away –  Stop being lazy. –  Stop finding excuses, like ‘it’s inconvenient’. –  Don’t set a date when to start, start right now. –  Asking shops to give discount if costumers don’t take plastic bags ‘A supermarket branch in Spain started giving costumers a discount of 2 cents for every 10 euros they spent, which reduced the amount of handed out plastic bags about 50 %   |
