上一篇文章中提到「Um」這段廣播，一開始廣播的逐字稿並沒有掛上網。所以，我聽了幾次，還是無法知道Michael Erard（麥可‧艾瑞得）的新書「Um: Slips, Stumbles, and Verbal Blunders and What They Mean」的副標題。既然英聽差，就得用點小聰明。廣播的短文簡介上，Michael Erard這兩個字是藍色的。網路的世界，藍字或底線，標示著知識的延展。輕扣，是麥可‧艾瑞得的私人網站。網站中有作者的學經歷簡介，以及過往所發表的文章，自然也少不了新書的介紹。

書名：

Um…: Slips, Stumbles, and Verbal Blunders and What They Mean

嗯…中文該如何翻呢？stumble是結巴，但slip和blunder都是錯誤的意思，有何差異呢？問了班上的同學Mickey，雖然她認為slip可能是指比較小的錯誤，而blunder指較大的錯誤。她主要認為這是書商的修辭。注意看：

這樣一看，就可以看出文字的層次感。有趣吧？

從同學那裡得不到確切的答案，還是想知道slip與verbal blunder的差別，只好回麥可‧艾瑞得的網站找答案。網站中轉載許多報章雜誌針對「Um」這本書的書評，有一篇寫在加拿大安大略省Waterloo區的報紙The Record，作者Bill Bean寫了這麼一段：
「The author explains common speech blunders and how they differ, including slips of the tongue (an involuntary deviation from the speaker's intended choice of words), malapropisms (the accidental substitution of one word for another), spoonerisms (an exchange of sounds—getting the mirds wixed) and pause fillers (um, ah and uh).」

依這段文的內容，verbal blunder是口語錯誤的總稱，細分幾類：

slips of the tongue : 不經意講出與心中想的字不同的字
malapropism : 照字面是指意外的用一個字取代另一個，但字典的解釋則為「文字誤用(尤指誤用發音相似而意義不同的詞語)」
spoonerism : 首音誤置（如將well-oiled bicycle說成well-boiled icicle）
pause filler : 填充停頓的字眼，如um, ah, uh, er （中文：嗯、ㄚ、呃等）
